Poetry in the Romantic era was largely a male domain, yet a handful of brilliant female poets dared to write under their own names. Among them, Marceline Desbordes-Valmore emerged as a leading voice—a trailblazer whose work defied conventions but remained overlooked for decades.

Join us for a captivating conference presented by Hannah Doyle (University of Adelaide), as we delve into:

Hannah Doyle teaches French language and literature at the University of Adelaide. She recently completed a Master of Philosophy, specialising in the poetry of Marceline Desbordes-Valmore. She is particularly interested in the link between Desbordes-Valmore’s theatrical background and the performative nature of her poems. Her research aims to draw attention to the poetic mastery, innovation, and authority of this often-overlooked poet.
