🌿 Film Screening – Les Algues Vertes (Green Tide) with Q&A
As part of our eco-exhibition Le Monde sans fin, join us for the screening and Q&A of the powerful French film Les Algues Vertes, based on the groundbreaking investigation by journalist Inès Léraud, who also co-wrote the screenplay.
🎬 The Movie:
Set in Brittany, this investigative drama uncovers the disturbing reality behind the proliferation of toxic green algae along the French
coast — a direct consequence of industrial farming and environmental neglect. Through suspense and social commentary, the film brings to
light the dangers of silencing whistleblowers and the urgent need for ecological accountability.
💬Q&A:
Sophie Leterme, professor in Biological Oceanography at Flinders University, will join us for a short presentation about algae in
Australia, followed by a Q&A after the screening.
Sophie's research focuses on marine microbes, biofilms, and their impact on both ecosystems and industrial infrastructure. She leads
innovative projects on desalination, biofouling, and microplastic pollution. She also founded the Biofilm Research & Innovation
Consortium (BRIC)
and heads the ARC Training Centre on Biofilm Research.
As algae blooms are making headlines in both France and Australia, this screening couldn’t be more timely. In South Australia, algal
overgrowth is damaging marine ecosystems, while in France, the government has, for the first time, been held legally responsible for a
death caused by toxic algae exposure — an event portrayed in the film.
Thought-provoking, urgent, and deeply relevant, this special evening invites us to explore the environmental issues that connect us across continents
