Firstly, thank you to everyone! The 2018 French Film Festival has beaten all previous records since commencing in Adelaide, with over 13,800 tickets sold. Let's meet again in 2019 for the 30th anniversary of the festival! In the meantime, May is bursting with French events: presentations, quiz night, opera, cinema…Clearly, the love story between France and Adelaide is no closer to ending!

Tout d’abord, merci à tous ! Avec plus de 13800 tickets vendus, l’édition 2018 du festival a battu tous les records d’affluence depuis la création du festival à Adélaïde. Rendez-vous en 2019 pour les 30 ans du festival ! En attendant, le mois de mai s’annonce riche en évènements français : conférences, quiz night, opéra, cinéma…Décidément, l’histoire d’amour entre la France et Adélaïde n’est pas prête de s’arrêter.

The emergence of fake news has created a news ecosystem that corrodes trust with too many profiting from fake news. In the course of this panel discussion we place those responsible for fake news in the dock and ask what can be done to rebuild trust.

Club de Lecture - Sept jours pour une éternité

For this month's Club de Lecture, the club will to discuss Sept jours pour une éternité by Marc Levy, about an absurd bet between God and Lucifer to put an end to their eternal rivalry, as they each send their best agents to Earth with seven days to see who will triumph and ultimately rule mankind: Good or Evil?

Ciné-club - Quai d'Orsay

For this month's Ciné-club, we will be screening Quai d'Orsay, a 2013 French comedy which takes look at the French Foreign Ministry under Dominique de Villepin as France, in co-operation with Germany, opposes the 2003 Invasion of Iraq.

Pourquoi avoir choisi de faire un séjour linguistique en France ?
Suivant des cours à l’Alliance française d’Adélaïde, j’avais envie de poursuivre mon apprentissage du français en France dans un cadre similaire, au sein d’une Alliance, afin de prolonger de façon plus intense cette expérience. C’était aussi l’occasion de faire quelque chose de différent en France, rien que pour moi.

Racontez-nous une journée type à Rouen.

Je séjourne dans une famille d’accueil. Du coup, chaque matin, je prends le petit déjeuner avec ma famille d’accueil, puis pars à pied de la maison pour rejoindre l’AF de Rouen. Je peux ainsi profiter des beautés architecturales de la ville de Rouen. Une fois arrivée à l’AF, je suis des ateliers le matin de 8 heures 45 à 10 heures sur des thèmes intéressants (phonétique, films et chansons françaises, etc.), puis j’enchaine avec un cours de français de 10 heures à 13 heures. L’après-midi, nous avons droit à des activités culturelles : ciné-club, ateliers de cuisine et visites touristiques. C'est très bien! Le soir, dîner en famille d'accueil et le week-end excursions touristiques en Normandie! Je suis allée à Honfleur et au Mont Saint-Michel (incroyable!). Cette semaine, je vais aller à Étretat et Giverny.

Avez-vous des conseils pour ceux qui veulent faire un séjour linguistique ?

Palace Nova - Aurore

If you missed this amazing film during the French Film Festival, you can still watch Aurore, a warm-hearted romantic comedy which centres on a middle-aged woman in the midst of major personal and professional life changes, as it returns to Palace Nova this month.
The theatrical season begins on 17 May, with special previews for Mother's Day Weekend (11-13 May). We have 5 DOUBLE PASSES to give away to our members for the Mother's Day weekend screenings. To enter, just email us with your favourite memory from a female role model. Competition closes on Monday, 7 May and winners will be notified on Tuesday, 8 May.

Adelaide Festival Centre - The Pearl Fishers

In The Pearl Fishers by Georges Bizet, Nadir must choose between the oath made to his friend, or the love of his life. This story of love, jealousy and temptation is sung in French with English surtitles, with a limited season, Saturday, 12 - Saturday, 19 May. The Pearl Fishers is an Opera Conference production presented by State Opera SA.

On Thursday, 3 May at 6pm, What have the French ever done for us? will be holding a panel discussion at The University of Adelaide,focusing on the enduring legacy of the French literary tradition and French Theory's influence on our ways of seeing the world.
