Coming In September:

Alliance Française-SAFTA Competition

Eightschools have taken part in the Alliance Française–SAFTA French Competition, held at the end of August.

The papers will be marked in September, and we already know that some of the winners are amongst the 124 students who participated in the 40-minute exam.

French Club at the Highgate School

The Alliance Française is launching a French Club at Highgate in September. This club is open to siblings of students who are currently enrolled in the French binational/bilingual program at Highgate. The French Club is a great way to help more people speak French.

Naval Group French Training

The Alliance Française will be working with the Naval Group to assist their Australian employees in learning French before they head to Cherbourg (Normandy, France) at the end of the year.

We hope this is the first stage of a great working relationship with the Naval Group.

Ciné-club - Camille Redouble

Wednesday, 20th September - 6pm
Alliance Française, 319 Young St, Wayville


For this month's Ciné-club, we will be screening Camille Redouble,a 2012 French drama film which tells the story of Camille who is transported back to 1985 to her teenage self after she consults a quirky clockmaker to fix her watch.

Booking is essential. To register your interest, please email us at adelaide@af.org.au by Monday, 18th September, to book your seats. Ciné-club is free to all members and students.

Club de Lecture

Wednesday, 27th September - 6:30pm-8pm
Alliance Francaise, 319 Young St, Wayville

For this month's Club de Lecture, the club will be discussing Ce que le jour doit à la nuitby Yasmina Khadra, which follows the life of a young man, Younes, from his childhood in Algeria in the 1930s to his life as an adult.

A new way to practise your French, Club de Lecture allows you to develop and improve your reading and comprehension skills.

City to Bay - Team AF

Join the Alliance Française d'Adélaïde team to either walk or run from the City to Glenelg, and help us raise money for charity for the 45th anniversary of the City to Bay.

Once you have registered for the run at www.city-bay.org.au, send your contact details to Kady at adelaide@af.org.auand we will keep you up-to-date about the race.

You will also receive a free t-shirt for the race to help represent our team! Your t-shirt can be picked up from the Alliance Française, or will be provided to you on the day.

Du 13 au 16 septembre, les étudiants de l’association française de l’Université d’Adélaïde vont offrir une représentation du Prince des jouisseurs, au Little Theatre de l’Université d’Adélaïde. Cette pièce de Gabriel Sabourin sur la vie de Georges Feydeau sera donnée en français avec des surtitres en anglais. Nous avons rencontré Steven Mann, le metteur en scène, pour parler de la pièce :

Steven Mann, pourquoi avoir choisi  Le Prince des jouisseurs ?
Lors d’un échange universitaire à Montréal en 2014, j’habitais en face d’un théâtre et j’ai eu le plaisir d’assister à la pièce. Cette dernière m’a marqué. Les jeux de mots et la dimension dramatique qui se dévoile au fur et à mesure de la progression de l’intrigue m’ont convaincu de l’intérêt de monter cette pièce à Adélaïde.

Quel est le plus grand défi que doivent relever des étudiants australiens qui jouent dans une pièce de théâtre en français ?
Mémoriser le texte en français reste le principal défi ! Personnellement, le fait d’avoir déjà participé à plusieurs pièces de théâtre en français m’a énormément aidé pour savoir comment improviser et rebondir dans une langue étrangère.

Pouvez-vous définir le Prince des jouisseurs en une phrase ?
Le Prince des jouisseursest une pièce qui, sous une apparence légère et comique, possède une dimension profonde, qui peut vous surprendre.

Comédie-Française - The Misanthrope

The Misanthrope, a stage play performed at the renowned Comédie-Française, will be coming to the big screen on 2 & 3 September at Palace Nova.

Alcest loves Célimène, a flirtatious woman from the Parisian high society, a world he loathes for its hypocritical etiquette. However, Alcest is called to a public trial by this social circle, and he must visit Célimène to ask for her help.
