November 2016 Newsletter

AF Adelaide - 201611 Newsletter

If, as wrote the famous gourmet Anthelme Brillat-Savarin,"the destiny of nations depends on how they nourish themselves", no doubt France has a promising future. So, this is, in a way, our invitation to you to share this future on the occasion of the 2016 Bonjour Adelaide French Market (18 and 19 November, Unley Soldiers’ Memorial Gardens). The list of sweet and savoury delights that awaits you is impressive: cheese, crêpes, pastries, smallgoods, wines...

However, summing up the French Market (and French culture) as a series of culinary specialties would be being simplistic. Coming to the French Market is also having the opportunity to experience at first hand a certain perception of France, that which we all love, that places the values of exchange, conviviality and fraternity at the heart of its identity. A fine and noble project reminiscent of the Alliance française teams are trying to accomplish daily ...

2016 Bonjour Adelaide French Market

We are thrilled to welcome you to our 2016 Bonjour Adelaide French Market. Previously, the French Market attracted almost 10,000 visitors, making it one of the most popular events in the Adelaide spring calendar.

The French Market offers an opportunity for lovers of France, French style and culture to fill their baskets with French-inspired gourmet produce and goodies for festive celebrations and Christmas gifts.

The Market is a colourful family affair, with popular French music and entertainment, cooking demonstrations, children’s activities and much more.

From 6 pm onwards the Bonjour Adelaide French Market will turn into a dynamic and vibrant open air music festival, inviting everybody to swing a leg to popular French pop music.

One of the Market highlight is a raffle offering a chance to win a Trip for Two to France, thanks to Singapore Airlines … oh la la … Why wait until the French Market to win a trip to Paris? Tickets are also available for purchase in our office…

Tartuffe Tintin Exhibition

State Theatre Company’s final show of 2016, Tartuffe, is a roaring collaboration with Brink Productions about self-serving, truth-denying, power-seeking hypocrites that never gets old!

This revamped and revived production of Moliere’s classic has been injected with a dose of pop-culture and sharply pulled into the ‘age of entitlement’ by award-winning playwright Philip Kavanagh.

The Alliance Française d’Adelaïde and the Unley Museum invites you to visit the Tintin Exhibition.

With more than 100 pieces on exhibit from the 1930s to present day, Pop Culture Historian Stuart A Blair (BLang BA Hons Flin), has been invited to present one of the great icons of pop culture and is a must see for historians and students of French culture and language.

Is there a character that has had more influence on French society than Tintin? General Charles De Gaulle was quoted as saying, “In reality, you know, my only international rival is Tintin”.

An exhibition for the whole family to enjoy.
